Chocolate Soldier, The

Beautifully cut, solid mahogany jigsaw puzzle by Holtzapffel, part of their highly-prized Figure=It=Out range. This 250 piece example features unsigned artwork, possibly having originated as a poster for the Oscar Strauss operetta The Chocolate Soldier. See Page 5 of this pre 1922 Holtzapffel price list for other titles. The box address of 53 Haymarket, along with the Company name of Holtzapffel & Co. help to date this puzzle as being from between 1907 and 1922, whilst the solid mahogany backing probably places it around 1910, also tying in with the show's Lyric Theatre run from this year.
