Challenge, The

This fiendishly colour line-cut and entirely push-fit plywood jigsaw puzzle carries a handwritten date inscription of 1928 on the box-base. It features a fine painting by the prolific British artist Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale (1872-1945), depicting a child's bold challenge to a dark knight, mounted on his black charger. Who will win out in the battle, the dark knight on his skull and cross-bone patterned horse, or the child on a hearts and flowers coated white charger? The apparent presence of the Grim Reaper seems to indicate that only one shall survive the day!
