Scotland's Army

Challenging non-interlocking plywood jigsaw puzzle, estimated to be of c1920's-1930's origin. The style includes considerable colour line cutting, along with a selection of eight figural shaped pieces.
The box carries an additional title of Defending the Empire and a paper label detailing the scene. This carries the narrative of The storming of Dargai Heights by the First Gordon Highlanders. This attack took place on the 20th October 1897, as part of the Tirah campaign. Four Victoria Cross medals were awarded, perhaps the most notable being for Sergeant George Frederick Findlater VC (1872–1942), the piper in the foreground who, after being shot in both ankles continued to play on to encourage the advance.
