Afterglow at Sea

Superb plywood jigsaw puzzle, one which features a very colourful painting by Richard Dey De Ribcowsky (1880-1936). Whilst the original box is no more, a previous owner has preserved the small black & white guide picture from the box. Remnants of the original box-covering, still attached to the reverse of this picture, quote such phrases as close-cutting, irregular pieces and good quality wood, familiar Chandos terminology, helping to confirm its identity.
The puzzle is estimated to be of c1930's manufacture. The same artist also painted the artwork for this Chad Valley puzzle.
