Under the Pines

The artwork for this beautifully crafted plywood puzzle comes originally from an LNER poster for Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire, also home to 617 Sqaudron (The Dambusters) during 1944-1945, and promoting its Bromo-iodine waters and First Class Golf. The painting is by the British artist Frank Newbould (1887-1951), a prolific poster artist in the 1920's-1930's.
The puzzle itself, cut by Mrs Apperly with proceeds going to Fegan's Training Farms for Boys, has been very skillfully cut, in quite large-sized pieces and has had the name Sabina carefully cut into it, running diagonally through the puzzle which also includes colour line-cutting. An altogether stunning example of fine artwork and expert cutting, presumably personalised as either a gift, or directly for, Sabina.
The box which houses the puzzle was formerly a British Red Cross box which has been labelled on the inner lid and covered in cloth material, the same fabric as was used on Mrs. Apperly's Surf Bathing puzzle!
