Gay Way Nursery Rhyme Series

Andrew clearly purchased a number of prints from this series of paintings and is known to have cut several wooden jigsaw puzzles from them. Hopefully others will come to light and be added to this dedicated album.

All so far seen have been of similar proportions and cut in an interlocking style with a larger average piece size than his more general practice. This presumably points towards a younger targeted audience. Nonetheless, most puzzles still include considerable colour line-cutting making the challenge of their assembly very enjoyable, especially when combined with the very colourful and cheery subject matter!

The prints themselves were issued as two sets of 24 and published by Macmillan circa 1950. They were all painted by the British illustrator Dorothy Muriel Wheeler (1891-1966) and edited by Ella Ruth Boyce.

Special thanks to Jackie Armstrong for her interest and the provision of so much information and material to aid the development of the site.
