The Owl And The Pussycat Went to Sea
This is the first in a series of four commissions to Heather Prydderch of Owen Wood illustrations to the Owl & The Pussycat by Edward Lear. I found the book after seeing a British Jigsaw Library puzzle by him (The Wedding) brought to a BCD meeting. I asked Heather for shaped jigsaws with dropouts and to retain the verse. I hoped that these jigsaws would have the feel of the great American Par Puzzles and Heather did not disappoint – she also made them 3D-enhanced!
A medium sized jigsaw, 321pc measuring 16.5x10.9in, with outserts, dropouts and masterful 3D-enhancement, it is still possible to do this in one long session. It has been enjoyed at a BCD day meeting and was assembled five times at Puzzle Parley 2024.
The series consists of this jigsaw, The Piggy-wig’s Ring, The Wedding and They Danced on the Shore.
The book contains the illustrated story of the Owl and the Pussycat with a several Lear Limericks. (Genest Le Colimacon also cut three of the limerick illustrations for me in figure-it-out style.)
