Abydos

A brand of card puzzles thought to date from the 1970’s–1980’s. Subjects were typically views or features of historic buildings such as stately homes, cathedrals and castles: also well-known gardens. It is assumed that these branded items were made for sale in retail outlets at those venues.

Puzzles are fully interlocking. Boxes have a full guide picture on the lid and a description of the subject on the base.

The manufacturer is unknown, also there are no lists of subjects available so more information is welcomed.

Seven puzzles from the Stately Homes Series are illustrated, also two 200-piece jigsaws in drum-shaped boxes.

Other known subjects are:-
Shakespeare’s Birthplace and various views of the City of Bath from the ‘Heritage’ series.
Caernarvon Castle and views of the Tower of London from the ‘Castles’ series
Ely Cathedral and York Minster from the ‘Cathedrals’ series.
300-piece circulars: National Trust Gardens, Trees of Great Britain ,Life in Roman Britain and a set of four Beaulieu puzzles, namely Bucker’s Hard, National Motor Museum, Palace House & Gardens and Beaulieu Abbey Ruins.
