Race for the Schneider Cup

The original competition was held 12 times between 1931 and 1931 and was a timed race for seaplanes and flying boats, the fastest being awarded the Schneider Trophy. Great Britain won permanent possession of it in 1931.

Bryan de Grineau’s action-packed painting dated 1929 depicts that year’s race in progress at Calshot Spit in the Solent with some large ocean liners in the background.

NB – CV’s title ‘Race for the Schneider Cup’ is incorrect.

The puzzle has a conventional CV cut with lozenge-shaped pieces and comes in a lidded box depicting three formally-dressed puzzlers plus a small coloured guide picture. Original price 2/6 (12½p), about £12.50 in today's money.
