City of Birmingham

Very large, 5-ply wooden jigsaw puzzle, estimated to be of early 1950s manufacture and featuring a colourful pictorial map of the City of Birmingham, designed and drawn by W.H. Price 1949.
Whilst the box does not carry any clear manufacturer identification, the cut of the puzzle and its similarity to this London map puzzle seem clear enough evidence of its Chad Valley origins, probably as part of a very limited production run. The cutter has applied considerable effort and skill in the task of producing the puzzle, with colour line-cutting widely used, unlike almost all other CV puzzles. Each vignette has been individually cut out, along with the vast majority of the other sections and places of interest within the artwork.
