Cunard Liner "Carmania" Leaving Liverpool Landing Stage.

This really is one of Chad Valley's most spectacular examples from their extensive series of Cunard promotional plywood jigsaw puzzles, produced from around 1925 onwards.
In this large, 500 piece puzzle, Charles Eddowes Turner's detailed painting of a busy maritime scene on Liverpool's waterfront, carries identification inscriptions along the lower edge which serve to name the major features both on the water and on the seafront in the background.
The main ship featured is the liner RMS Carmania, built by John Brown and Company on Clydebank in 1905 and spending the subsequent five years on the New York-Liverpool route, becoming one of the fastest ships in operation at that time. She saw active service as an armed merchant cruiser during the First World War, reentering commercial service in 1919, was refitted in 1923 and remained in service until she was scrapped in 1932.
