O.H.M.S. Air Force
Excellent painting by C.F. Hopkinson features on this exceedingly rare 200 piece plywood puzzle from the Dunlop series of puzzles. Produced c1939, although some aspects of the scene seem to pre-date this and supplied in a bookshelf-style box with small colour guide picture.
The Dunlop logo appears very distinctly on the car tyres in the foreground, as well as on the aircraft tyre.
Special thanks to Brian Evans for supplying further thoughts on the detail of this puzzle, including possible identification of the plane as an Avro Tutor, the car as a c1930's Lagonda and the likelihood of the most senior officer depicted as being Lord Tedder, Marshall of the RAF at around this time. The Army style uniforms which are featured rather contradict the rest of the scene, being more reminiscent of the WWI period, indicating this as being something of a composite painting, but a superb one at that!
Thanks also to Tom Tyler for the wonderful work he has done on researching and dating these fascinating and Historically important puzzles.
