Gamage's

Opened in 1878 by Arthur Walter Gamage, the Gamage's store proved very successful, despite being away from the Oxford Street area which most considered the prime London retail area. As the business grew, most of the surrounding premises were bought, leading to the Department Store ending up as a maze of rooms, steps, passages and ramps.
One such acquisition was that of "Benetfink & Co., Ltd" in 1907. I have seen an example of a "Tormentum" jigsaw puzzle carrying the Benetfink name.
The store finally closed in 1972.
Jigsaw puzzles were a popular product in the store, though were likely made elsewhere, possibly by the manufacturer William Peacock, whose cutting style closely matches that of most examples of Gamage's puzzles.
