Happy Family

This stunning example from the highly acclaimed Figure=It=Out range has a solid mahogany backing and the box lid, quoting Holtzapffel & Co of 53 Haymarket, also refers to G.W. Holtzapffel Budd. My belief is that, despite its appearance in this post 1922 Price List as the centrepiece of their Figure=It=Out advertisement, this particular example comes from much earlier c1910-1920.

The artwork is now known to have originated as a promotional poster for the 1916 Prince of Wales Theatre production of a musical play of the same name, with music by Cuthbert Clarke and lyrics by Adrian Ross. The painting is by the British artist Cecil Aldin (1870-1935)
