French Soldiers (Zouave Encampment, A)

Fine quality Holtzapffel puzzle with a handwritten title of French Soldiers on the box, but actually featuring a painting by the French artist Jean Baptiste Édouard Detaille (1848-1912), dated 1886 and better known by the title, A Zouave Encampment.
The solid mahogany puzzle features careful colour line-cutting, so typical of this highest quality manufacturer.
Reference on the box lid to H.M. The King and H.R.H. The Crown Prince of Greece helps to date this as one of the earliest examples of Holtzapffel puzzles which I have so far seen, believed to date within the era 1907-1910, the earliest of these dates being when the company is understood to have taken up residence at 53, Haymarket and the later being the year King Edward VII passed away. Post 1910 examples carry reference to The late King Edward VII
