Roman Banquet, A

A jigsaw of a banqueting scene in ancient Rome which was originally part of the A1 Puzzle Club.

The puzzle originally came in a brown library-type box but only the top label has survived with details of the puzzle and Edith William's London address plus initials "C.S." to identify the cutter.

Also here on the Jigasaurus is an album dedicated to the UMCA, or Universities Mission to Central Africa. Their puzzles identified two cutters, namely Claude Stert and Miss E. Smith, with the former thought to have been responsible for the earlier examples. A close look at the cutting style of the UMCA puzzle At Home in China, identified as cut by Claude Stert, helps to identify him as being the "C.S." recorded on the box for this A.1 example.
