Snow in Town

408-piece, non-interlocking plywood jigsaw puzzle, estimated to be of c1960s manufacture and cut for the library by Eric Bond. Brilliant colour line-cutting abounds, making for an incredibly challenging task of assembly for such a relatively small puzzle.

Without the benefit of an image to go on, the tree branches were an absolute joy to try and fathom out, as too were the various windows and advertising signs!!

The painting, which lends itself so well to its role in this magnificent puzzle, is by the Swiss artist Hugo Wetli (1916-1972), and was originally produced as one of a series of promotional posters for Swiss tourism in 1959, this example carrying a translated title of "Winter stroll in the city".
