York

Colourful non-interlocking plywood jigsaw puzzle, cut by Richard Sawbridge and estimated to be of c1970s-1980s manufacture. The puzzle includes abundant colour line-cutting and features a painting by the British artist Fred Taylor (1875-1963).

This puzzle was taken partly assembled to the November 2024 BCD event held at Grovely Jigsaws in Dorset, as an exhibit for the regular "Show & Tell" event with a theme of "Historic Britain". Not quite finished on the day, it returned home with me for a few hours of additional and most enjoyable assembly.

The painting originated as a promotional poster, used by LNER as well as being used to promote a guide book for the city, available from the town clerk. Fred Taylor's work also featured in several Chad Valley promotional puzzles including these three from their GWR series
