Ladies Mile on Clarence Parade, The
The relatively small number of pieces in this panoramic non-interlocking plywood jigsaw puzzle belie the challenge it actually presents to the assembler, particularly without the benefit of an image to start with. I enjoyed every minute of my time putting it together and it was clear from the off that the cutter, Eric Bond, must have gained similar levels of pleasure from cutting it. The artwork itself is thought to be considerably older than the puzzle itself, the latter believed to be of c1960's vintage whilst the print is probably of c1920's-1930's origin and features the Ladies Mile footpath and Clarence Parade in Southsea, Hampshire on England's south coast.
Eric Bond has cut the puzzle superbly with accurate colour line-cutting featuring in just about every detail of the painting. Without access to any sort of guide picture it was several hours before the structure of the puzzle started to make sense and even with only a dozen or so pieces left to place, they still proved very challenging to locate, the sign of a really good cutter!
