Roman Wall, The

300-piece push-fit plywood jigsaw puzzle, cut by Dolly McDougall in 1954 with some very well executed colour line-cutting. This is most evident in her attention paid to the sky area, often the least appealing area of a puzzle but here, a thoroughly enjoyable experience!

The painting is by the British artist Max Hofler (1892-1963) and depicts the spectacular view along Hadrian's Wall towards the Roman fort at Housesteads. This artist's work can be seen elsewhere on the Jigasaurus. Click here for these other examples. These include another puzzle from the East Anglian Jig-Saw Club, that of "Mother of Parliament", also cut in 1954.
