Party, The

Large, colour line-cut plywood jigsaw puzzle featuring a beautiful painting by the British author and illustrator Joyce Lankester Brisley.
The box has been relabelled for this puzzle, having originally housed a 400 piece puzzle of King Arthur on Dartmoor. The artwork for this puzzle is thought to be of c1950's vintage. The box-base carries a label to confirm the puzzle was cut by Miss Rutherford, who ran a puzzle lending library in Liverpool. The cutting of this puzzle certainly matches her style, whilst the original, overwritten label quoting an identity number of E165, also carries typewritten rental terms of 4 weeks from Vivienne Scott, so perhaps her own rental library was taken over by, or joined forces with that of Miss Rutherford's own.
