L'alliance

Very colourful plywood jigsaw puzzle from Collection Prestige, categorised as 15th Century and cut in a semi-interlocking and push-fit style with considerable colour line-cutting.
The painting is understood to be by the artist Petrus Christus and features a Goldsmith (possibly St. Eligius), weighing a wedding ring for the couple stood beside him in his shop.
This puzzle demonstrates one of the problems faced by puzzle cutters, where features such as hands and faces are too large to be cut as individual pieces. The cut lines detract rather from the features of the painting. This problem seems particularly noticeable with line-cut puzzles such as this.
Many thanks to Jacques Vélu for supplying photographs and details on this puzzle.
