Peacock

One of Britain's most important jigsaw puzzle manufacturers, a family business established in 1853 as a maker of dissected maps, going on to produce high quality wooden jigsaw puzzles, right through the heyday of jigsaw popularity, up to their takeover by Chad Valley in 1934.

As well as being a prolific manufacturer of puzzles under their own brand name, Peacock's can be linked to many other well known brands of puzzle. Some of these carry their own clear identity, such as the "W.P. & S. London", initialled "Playtime" puzzles, shown here within their own range classification.

Others, however, are not so clearly marked but cutting styles, box designs and label layouts, all point very convincingly towards Peacock as their manufacturing source. Most of these suggested brands are associated with some of London's most famous retail establishments including Gamage's, Shoolbred's, Bon Marche, Selfridge and Hamley's.
