Nid, Le

c1913 semi-interlocking wooden puzzle from the Aristique range of this French manufacturer. The dating comes from a price list found inside the box which promotes a 1914 calendar. The painting is by the popular French Rococo style artist Francois Boucher (1703-1770). The grandly worded label inside the box-lid promotes the puzzles as being Sold everywhere, adding that the Card is scented with L'étoile de Napoléon (Napoleon's star), a perfume sold widely in the era 1911-1913, adding further weight to the likely date of origin .
I am very grateful to Jacques Vélu for supplying details of the puzzle and also for his excellent detective work.
