Blossoming Almond Tree

A truly stunning modern jigsaw puzzle interpretation of Amandier en fleurs (Blossoming Almond Tree), a painting by Vincent Van Gogh in February 1890 from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, which is now displayed in the Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam.
This wonderful puzzle was created in March 2013 by Simon Stocken and contains a rich variety of cutting techniques. Predominantly interlocking, and with widespread and complex colour line-cutting Simon has also incorporated areas of push-fit pieces, particularly noticeable within the composite Whimsy shaped pieces such as the large Star round a Star, one of their favoured designs. The large number of whimsies echo the influences of Enid Stocken, with familiar shapes such as umbrellas and wheelbarrows putting in a welcome appearance.
This spectacular puzzle was cut to order and has delighted its owner, being both beautiful and extremely challenging. Indeed it has taken a family, notorious for their assembling prowess, some 35-40 hours to complete!
Many thanks to Jacques Vélu for providing details of this first example of a Puzzleplex branded puzzle for the Jigasaurus.
