Royal National Institute for the Blind

The RNIB archive Department have very kindly advised that jigsaw puzzles have been permanently included in their catalogues since 1926, with some instances going back to 1900. William Peacock & Sons Ltd were their earlier supplier, whilst manufacturers of the later puzzles are not yet known.

Receiving a Royal charter in 1948 led to an organisational name change from "National Institute for the Blind" to "Royal National Institute for the Blind" in 1953, helping to provide some manufacturing date clarity. A change in box style from plain coloured to patterned print, coupled with a new "RNIB" logo also appeared, perhaps towards the late 1950s to early 1960s.
