13103. Cheltenham Flyer

A depiction of the 29p stamp designed by Terence Cuneo in the 'Famous Trains' series. The train is shown being pulled by Castle Class Loco no. 5069, Isambard Kingdom Brunel which was built in 1938 and withdrawn in 1962.

The name 'Cheltenham Flyer' was a nickname applied in the 1930's to the 'Cheltenham Spa Express' running between Paddington and Cheltenham Spa on the basis of its claim to be the world's fastest train. The CSE still runs today Monday to Friday. Also see the GWR Series puzzle..
