Mosque in Cairo, A

Painted by the Swiss artist Otto Pilny (1866-1936), this interlocking-cut plywood Zag-Zaw has been carefully shaped at the corners and also includes a fine selection of forty intricately cut Whimsies, or figural shaped pieces.
The inner surface of the box lid carries details from the 1897-established American department store Hochschild, Kohn & Co. of Baltimore, Maryland and this puzzle evidently belonged to a Rental Library which the store operated, probably during the Great Depression years c1929-mid 1930's.
