SLEEPING BEAUTY, Margot Fonteyn, THE

This small interlocking plywood puzzle from Victory's Popular Series features a fine artistic depiction by the artist Carlotta Edwards of Margot Fonteyn, dancing as Aurora in Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty. The color guide picture on the lid carries a reference number of V.2785.P. and the price of 4/11 is the same price quoted as that of the similarly presented Cinderella puzzle, helping in dating both examples as being from 1951. I am reliably informed that Robert Helpmann as Carabosse is lurking in the shadows on the left of the picture. He managed to double the roles of the Prince and Carabosse then, something no one else has ever done I think. Now it wouldn't be possible as they appear on stage within seconds of each other at the end of Act II!
