This fascinating producer of plywood puzzles operated from premises at 190, Strand, London. W.C.2., the same address as that of the Graphic and Daily Graphic news publications.
The similarities of cutting to those of the
Expert puzzles are immediately noticeable and easily explained since the non-Boots branded Expert puzzles state that they were manufactured by Robert Plumb, 10 years advisor to the Graphic Gallery.
From these early beginnings, many of the finest British wooden puzzles emanated, all featuring this characteristically intricate and almost whimsical style.
There are almost certainly links to
Frederick Warne's puzzles, as well as
Bedford and
Castle Jig-Saw puzzles amongst others.
Examples of these earliest Graphic Gallery puzzles are very scarce.
